Shahbaz Taseer held captive near Pak-Afghan border, says Rehman Malik

Interior Minister, Rehman Malik has proclaimed that Shahbaz Taseer is alive and held captive by terrorists near the Pak-Afghan border.

Shahbaz, who is the son of deceased Governor, Salman Taseer, was kidnapped by terrorists on August 26, 2011. He was heading towards his office when a group of terrorists halted his way and abducted him.

It has been months since his seizure and authorities have failed to release him from terrorists.

While addressing the terrorists, Malik said, “As per intelligence information, the kidnappers have kept the son of late Governor Salman Taseer in Pak-Afghan border areas, but I want to tell the terrorist that their coward action cannot weaken the government’s commitment against extremism and terrorism.”

Malik was speaking to the media while he was paying a visit to the Headquarters of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

While answering to a question, he said that banned organisations such as Tehrik-e-Taliban and Al Qaeda have also planned to kidnap the Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

He said that after the intelligence report, they have increased the security of Bilawal Bhutto so any activities involving his abduction could be dealt with.

“All necessary steps are being adopted to foil their nefarious designs,” the Minister added.

During the same conference, he alleged that he has no link with American security agency, Black Water. He also admired the efforts of Capital Police lead by Inspector General, Bani Amin, to eradicate terrorist activities in Islamabad.

The Minister also said that authorities have accelerated their activities to recover Shahbaz from the custody of terrorists as soon as possible.

Furthermore, he articulated to turn permanent all contractual employees of NADRA and said that a house-financing scheme for them has been started.

Further elaborating the pertaining issue, Malik said that 50 percent of finances for the housing proposal will be provided by NADRA and the rest of funds will be availed through banks. The housing advance will then be adjusted from the employee’s salaries.
