The British High Commission recognizes the role of inspirational women of Pakistan

“Women as Agents of Change”, that was the theme of the event when British High Commissioner Adam Thomson hosted a reception at the British High Commission on 17 October, 2011 in Islamabad.

The reception was hosted ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting scheduled to be held at Australian city Perth on 28 October, 2011.

The event was joined by the Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Australian High Commissioner and Mr. Timothy George along with the British High Commissioner.

Women are agents of change that men can never be. This was said by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar at the event, as she was surrounded by aspiring women in the audience, Khar in a lighter vein said “We will always be surrounded by men but it is very nice
to be amongst successful women.” She said that today we see women in almost every field, be it in the fields of Muzaffargarh or at a bank in Karachi. She stated that it was important for the women of the privileged class to work for those who are less privileged
and socially marginalised, especially those that are discriminated against.

At the event a short documentary was shown to the audience to acknowledge the inspirational stories of women in Pakistan.

The documentary displayed the story of Pakistan’s first woman taxi driver as well as other exceptional women from politics, business, the NGO sector and arts. The main aim of the documentary to was to recognize their contribution to Pakistan and their inspirational
message to women across the country.

At the event, British High Commissioner Adam Thomson said, “The Commonwealth is an important international forum for the UK, Australia and Pakistan, bringing together over 2 billion people from 54 countries- one third of the world’s population.”

The event focused on the pivotal roles assigned to women that included teachers who inspire their students to strive to achieve their potential, and the mothers of Pakistan who look after their families and drive their children to succeed.

Some were inspirational working women that inspire their communities to make a better life for those around them. The event mainly gave a tribute to those unsung heroes of Pakistan
