Rap Engineers – Pakistan’s hip-hop duo

Rap Engineers – probably one of the pioneers of Islamabad’s hip-hop circle; building their ground on the Capital City’s underground music in 2005, when the band came alive with 5 members initially, however, a few years down the road, the hardcore English and Punjabi rap ensemble is now left with the imposing coalition of Muhammad Ahmer Gul Khan, who is known for his stage name, Maddy Khan, and Muhammad Dar, aka Xpolymer Dar.

At present, the duo has already earned a massive share of the audience, especially since the recent release of their famed single, Conflict Management, featuring Yaruq Masood Malik, which went viral on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

The song comes out with a real depiction of what Rap Engineers are all about – starting with Maddy Khan’s well composed English ballad, coupled with Xpolymer Dar’s Punjabi rap, and all topped with the catchy, classical vocals of Yaruq – all of which made Conflict Management an instant hit.

However, trailing back to where it all began, the whole concept of Rap Engineers came up during a rap battle between Maddy Khan and his university mate, Muhammad Ali, aka ELLE, where Xpolymer was also present.

The trio soon realised that they could team-up to form into a revolutionising concept in the Capital City’s underground scene, and serve to an audience which was restricted merely to rock and pop music – while others preferred western hip-hop artists.

With an addition of two more members, the Rap Engineers formed into an imposing alliance, but with time, the entourage parted, leaving Maddy Khan and Xpolymer Dar to hold on to the Rap Engineers banner.

However, six years down the road, Maddy Khan and Xpolymer Dar have now proved their worth on the Pakistani mainstream media, standing tough as the country’s formidable rap duo

Apart from their frequent live performances throughout Islamabad, along with a recent interview on one of Pakistan’s local TV channels ATV; Rap Engineers are now planning to go from big to bigger.

With Conflict Management already making big, the rappers are now looking into their upcoming projects, starting with a music video for another of their hit singles Goli-Batain and then their soon to be released album which is set to feature some of Pakistan’s famed artists, such as QB (Qurat-ul-ain Baloch) and Umair Jaswal – the front-man for the Islamabad based rock band, Qayaas. The album is also set to feature Yaruq’s mesmerising vocals on several of Rap Engineers’ songs.

In one of his recent interviews, Maddy Khan, who is also a corporate official, revealed that it was a tough journey for the band in the beginning, but now – ‘sky’s the limit’!

“It’s tough to be working 9-6 at my day job and then 7-12 for my music. But as we’re picking up pace for our debut album and finalizing the second music video, we got to give in our best. We got to get that unique sound that no one else can come up with, or even replicate something like it – Conflict Management is an example,” said Maddy Khan.
