Alexandre Dumas’s trio of down on luck musketeers; Athos, Aramis and Porthos, comes to life on silver screen on October 21 (worldwide).

The luck of the three warriors of the French throne has hit a snag and the once heroic symbols for the masses are stuck in the jam of late. However, they discover a plot against the crown and must join forces with a hot-headed would-be-musketeer, D’Artagnan to save the regime from an elusive and beautiful double agent and her employer.

Athos (played by Matthew Macfadyen), Aramis (played by Luke Evans) and Porthos (played by Ray Stevenson) must take D’Artagnan (played by Logan Lerman) into the fold to not only save the throne but also prevent France from indulging into a war that might engulf Europe.

However, the big hurdle is the painfully attractive assassin Milady de Winter (Milla Jovovich), who in collaboration with villainous Cardinal (Christoph Waltz), lay out a plot to assassinate the Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom).

The incidence would stir up the relations between France and Britain, which are already treading on a fine line. The new quartet of warriors should come up with a plan to nip the evil in the bud.

This is not the first time that Dumas’ epic novel ‘The Three Musketeers’ has been brought to the film theatres. Two attempts previously were made in 1973 by Richard Lester and in 1993 by Stephan Herek. However, both of them could not produce a ripple on the box office.

The new version does not fall far from the grid in terms of credentials. The director, Paul W.S. Anderson does not have many silver screen hits on his resume, albeit Resident Evil. However, the star cast that includes Bloom, Jovovich, Academy Award winner Waltz and recent heart throb Stevenson add the flamboyance to the feature. Stevenson’s recent Hollywood flick Thor made big money in the cinemas worldwide.

The Three Musketeers is filmed in 3D and the high-end graphics, as evident from the trailers, suggest that it will keep the audience at the edge of their seats. Cinepax will roll the reel in 3D on the same day the film is released in the US.
