(Part 4)

America, on the other hand, does not shy away from supporting and justifying India’s presence in Afghanistan. According to Nicholas Burns, a retired American Diplomat, “India has a major role to play in Afghanistan… I think the Indian role in helping Afghan villagers and helping the Afghan government has been very positive. I don’t think we [can] say India cannot participate in rebuilding of Afghanistan because of differences with Pakistan.”

The support for India’s presence in Afghanistan indicates America’s inclination towards India. The routine terrorism in Pakistan is blamed on Taliban, though the well-trained insurgents and the modern weapons they possess is creating a strong suspicion that these terrorists are not Taliban but are rather Mercenaries. The true identity of these Mercenaries is not that significant because the poverty and radicalism in both India and Pakistan makes the youth extremely vulnerable to mischief-makers. What truly is significant is the force that is amassing the vulnerable youth from both sides of the border and using them to not only destabilise Pakistan, but also maintain a rift between the two neighbours.

Pakistan is fighting against the alleged Taliban in its western region and incurring heavy losses in the process. The terrorists have already targeted the army and naval headquarters, portraying Pakistani army and navy as incapable of defending itself against the insurgents. It is only a matter of time before the entire world uses this as an excuse to join hands and start a campaign to denuclearise Pakistan due to the potential threat of the nuclear assets falling in terrorist’s hands.

While there is already some pressure on Pakistan to hand-over its nuclear arsenal, the pressure is bound to mount after the world feels increasingly threatened with the possibility of Pakistan’s nuclear programme falling in wrong hands.

Once and if Pakistan loses the nuclear defence, the country will be a sitting duck and all it will take is another terrorist activity on the Indian soil to make the Indian army come charging across the border to “punish” the guilty.

The international community will not sympathise with Pakistan either because of it being an Islamic country and also because a huge chunk of the international media has devoted considerable amount of effort to ruin Pakistan’s reputation in the world.  Pakistan’s credibility is swiftly and consistently declining, making the country increasingly isolated with every passing day. Already stripped of sovereignty, the Pakistani nation has begun to rely more on God than on their defence forces for survival. However, deep within their hearts they can sense a dead end not too far ahead.
