Public versus private transport in India- for Pakistan

We try adopting all that we can from our neighbor, India, from fashion to food to songs to almost everything else that we can copy. We get inspired by their politicians and actors but have we ever tried following something that is substantial and constructive for our own country and people. We all very religiously followed the Anna Hazara episode but could not implement it in our own country at any level.

Battling corruption is something is so deep rooted that slashing it down in one go might not as well be possible but have we ever pondered over their public transport network, let alone everything else. There are trains that run throughout the country and make it possible for all age and income groups to travel feasibly. If not train then there are other forms of public transportation modes that make traveling at a reasonable rate possible.

They are way more advanced and economically stable than us but keeping in view the size of their population they have cut back on luxuries that seem to be no good. For instance their government officials ride in locally assembled cars and it is no secret the way our bureaucracy travels-nothing less than the very best and safe is only acceptable.

The leasing opportunities in our country have made it possible for all those earning a little decently to manage the installments without any real burden or sacrifice. Another complex that we face as a nation is the fear of being considered inferior if we travel in the public transport or even if we plan on car pooling it is not recognized as the most respectable practice. We are so miserably entangled in the chains of societal statuses that we just deny the easy way out even if one exists.

We do wail over the hiking prices of fuel but then are we ready to wake up a little earlier and sacrifice the comforts of the cars that we ride in? Can a neighborhood forget for one day that which household has what car and send the entire street’s children in two car pools that can be rotated regularly?

Yet again I am not stressing upon breakthrough and over the top changes just small adjustments that can make lives easier and more manageable. As charity starts from one’s own home similarly if one advocates change of any sort then that also has to be in initiated from the same platform.
