Manchester United and Zong combines for private content

According to an estimate by Manchester United Football Club, the number of fans it has in Pakistan amount to a staggering 10 million figure. United has combined with Zong to sign up a three year partnership with the China Mobile Company.

United is one of the biggest football clubs in the world, having millions of fans throughout the globe. The former European and World Club Champions have been looking to strengthen their growing popularity in the Asian sub-continent and gain financial benefits from the previously untapped market. Cricketers have been involved in match/spot-fixing incidences and the threat of terrorism have kept international cricket away from Pakistan causing the slow demise of cricket and the youth turning to football.

CFO of Zong, Mr. Feng Tuixian said “We share Manchester United’s commitment to be the best among competitors. I am sure this is the start of something very big indeed.”

It is interesting to note that football alerts and content have been virtually absent from the Pakistani telecom providers portfolio of services, match preview and goal alert services provided by telecom operators during the previous football world cup provided a glimpse of hope for football fans which was not long lived as these services were not continued after the mega event.

United manager Sir Alex was also excited as he said, “The way the Club uses modern technology to reach our millions of fans around the world is outstanding. Zong will be a key player in allowing us to bring the passion and excitement of Manchester United to our fans in Pakistan.”

United Commercial Director Richard director was quoted announcing the deal, “Zong is a great partner for United in Pakistan. It is a relatively young company, but has ambitions to be one of the major players in the country and partnering with United will give them high visibility, as well as helping the Club to communicate directly with millions of our supporters there. Using our digital assets to engage our global fan base is an increasingly-important part of our commercial strategy and we are very excited about the possibilities presented by this partnership.”

A variety of content including interviews, exclusive news, sneak peeks from Old Trafford and video replays of all the goals scored will be provided to Zong customers hence bringing the Red Devil fans closer to the theatre of dreams.
