RA One: Bollywood enters the 21st century

Watching sci-fi Bollywood movies has always been a drag for many viewers who actually want to move on from the basic love/romance drama these South Asian films are best known for, but due to the lack of decent graphics and outrageously unrealistic scenes,
staying interested was impossible, until now that is.

RA One, Shah Rukh Khan’s  latest sci-fi thriller, a surprisingly different move from the usual genre he is known to cover, is certainly a huge step forward for the entire industry and can be termed as the latest benchmark for future films.

To be fair, RA One has received its due share of mixed reviews from the critics and that is something the king of Bollywood should have expected. Not all movies that are termed to be great receive a standing ovation as soon as they are released, but it takes
time for the classics to be given due recognition.

RA One might not have exactly the best planned out story and frankly speaking, it could have been much better, but other than that, the graphics and action scenes were spectacular, the actors in the movie looked naturally like they were in the scene and
not just trying to overreact to the series of events taking place.

Something a viewer can easily notice is the huge improvement that the movie achieved during its car-chase scenes. It does not look like the drivers are in a controlled environment when they are closed-up on and it looks as if they actually are part of the
scene.

Unlike other Bollywood movies that turned out to be super mega hits like Salman Khan’s “Ready” and “Bodyguard”, RA One did not use cheap stunts like cars blowing up everywhere and people flying through the air after being hit in the chest, all the action
was quite normal and well executed and looked pretty much real.

With a mind blowing budget of an estimated, INR 1,750,000,000 (Approximately US$35, 823, 804), it was not any less of what would cost to make a top-notch Hollywood movie, which shows that SRK did not mind spending the money in order to make a good film,
a good sign indeed.

Ultimately, liking RA One depends on your taste as a viewer because in the end, it is not meant for everyone, especially the romance junkies.

Giving RA One a rating from 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I rate it an 8.5/10.
