The Petroleum Ministry has taken a decision to present a gift of no gas load shedding on this Eid. There will be no gas load shedding for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) all over the Punjab during Eid days from Friday November 4 to Friday November 11.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the petroleum minister, Dr Asim Hussain on Wednesday.

Gas stations in the Potohar region will however remain closed on Thursday.

“As restaurants/food outlets and many industries would be closed during these days, gas would be available in abundance these days,” an official of the petroleum ministry said.

The decision has been welcomed by the general public, who would have faced severe problems otherwise in Eid days as transport in the country is frozen when gas is unavailable.

The All Pakistan CNG Association chairman, Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, revealed after the meeting that load shedding for CNG would now be discussed on a month-to-month basis during winter. It has also been agreed in the meeting that for the month of November,
3 days gas load shedding per week will be observed once the Eid Holidays are over.

“We have given a formula to Dr Asim, which will reduce load shedding to less than two days,” Mr Paracha said.

In a statement released after the meeting the petroleum minister Dr. Asim Hussain said that “Natural gas would be provided to all stakeholders on equitable basis and relief on priority will be provided to domestic consumers during winter.”

He also assured the public that no sector would be victimized in this regard and everyone will be treated equally to share the burden of a coming winter gas shortage.

The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association Chairman has also agreed to the plan of three day gas load shedding.

Fertilizer sectors demands of renewing supply were also accepted in the meeting. The participants observed that the fertilizer sector had surfaced due to gas shortage and resulting high prices of fertilizer were producing an adverse effect on the agricultural
sector.

The meeting was attended by Mohmmad Ejaz Chaudhry, Secretary Petroleum, MD SNGPL, MD SSGC, representatives of textile industry, fertilizer, CNG and power companies.
