PTCL DSL: Expanding without Quality

There is no question about Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) being the largest telecommunication company in Pakistan with its widespread coverage and the support it provides to all other private companies throughout the country.

With the immense growth rate of PTCL, there are no limits to what this company, which was once operated fully by the government, but now is shared between Etisalat and the Government of Pakistan, can do in upcoming years.

The rates and packages it has provided, whether it be local/international phone rates, DSL internet, wireless internet and many other things, are one of a kind and since the passing of many years, no other company has been able to quite compare themselves
to the telecommunication giant.

But with all this expansion and constant upgrade to newer technologies and reaching areas where people could not dream of having internet, PTCL has begun to compromise on quality, which is the basic requirement of any business throughout the world in order
to maintain itself in the market.

The question is, will PTCL grow so much that at one point with so many unsatisfied customers, it will literally it itself up.

Sharing a personal experience, which I can relate to nearly all other people who I know of that have PTCL DSL installed in their residences, the disconnection and constant fluctuation in speed has completely made them lose their minds while trying to work.

At some times, it seems as if PTCL DSL is facing load-shedding issues because the net starts working every other hour.

The recent hidden charge that PTCL barely introduced to consumers was that they would be charging their customers Rs.1000 extra if more than 50GB of bandwidth was used in one month, which is disappointing news to hear, especially when their packages are
known as, “Unlimited”.

Slow browsing, minute-by-minute disconnection, slow downloading speed and uncooperative call centre staff have made me think about changing my service a number of times, which now makes me realise why some people choose the more expensive options like Wateen,
Quebee and LinkdotNet.

To be fair, the complaint registration system in PTCL is great and is quick in reacting to the concerns people face on a daily basis and when it cannot be fixed through the phone, a technician will come over and pay a visit, but here comes the bad part.

Whenever someone from PTCL comes, they hardly have any solution, except replacing the modem and reassuring that there are some “Upgrades” going on, which is why these problems have been occurring, but I ask, have these upgrades been going on for over a year
now, which is the duration I have not seen a smoothly working internet connection.

People like PTCL and want to continue using their services, but if they cannot keep their quality up to par and get rid of illogical overcharging like the plus 50GB usage policy, than they will leave us no choice but to move on.
