CNG: Friendly on your pocket, Friendly on the environment

Most of the vehicles in our country today especially the four and three wheelers are relying on the Compressed Natural Gas as the main source of fuel. The supply however is short as compare to its demand as it is 20-25% cheaper than petrol.

Government of Pakistan has taken measures to control the limited supply of the precious resource and as a result Gas Stations across Pakistan are ordered to remain shut for 2 to 3 days per week.

There are a lot of reasons to have your vehicle equipped with CNG features and the main one is that it is quite friendlier on your pocket. The biggest advantage of burning gas instead of Petrol is that CNG is environmental friendly too.

The world is spending billions every year to control the changing environment and it is unknown to many of us that every time we stop on a CNG station we are actually doing our bit in controlling the global warming.

There were a total number of 12.6 million natural gas vehicles by the end of 2010 across the world, out of which 2.74 million in Pakistan, 1.95 million in Iran, 1.9 million in Argentina, 1.1 million in India and 1.6 million in Brazil.

"The natural gas vehicle industry is mature and commercially viable in many countries. More than 50 vehicle manufacturers are now producing factory-built natural gas vehicles," says the organisation’s New Zealand-based Secretary-General, Dr Garth Harris.

He further added that, "Increased use of natural gas vehicles will reduce global warming emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxides by 20 to 25% over present best-available petrol- engine cars and light duty vehicles".

It is believed that earth is getting hotter and hotter as its temperature is on the up and since the last 100 years the temperature of our planet has raise to 1.4 °F (0.8 °C). Scientists have analysed that the most important reason behind the warming of
our climate is because of the greenhouse gases.

Greenhouse gases absorb and emit radiations in the atmosphere. The main reason behind those gases is cutting of forests and burning of fuel. It is believed that rise in temperature will make it impossible for some species to exist on planet earth including
seals and polar bears.

While the world is busy in producing electric cars and complex climate control plans. All we have to do is to ensure that we burn the minimum amount of petrol. Preferring CNG over other forms of fuel will assure our contribution in saving seals and polar
bears.
