Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova: Experience the past

Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova is a science fiction adventure television series that airs on Fox on Monday nights in United States. It can also be seen in Pakistan on Star World.

Terra Nova focuses on the Shannon family who lives in 2149 when the planet is on verge of extinction due to overpopulation and over pollution. Adding further to the misery, there is no fruit and vegetation making it impossible for humanity to survive.

At Hope Plaza, scientists discover a rift in time allowing people to time travel 85 million years back but to an alternate timeline, in order to avoid paradoxes caused by reverse-flow time travel. This could also be an opportunity to save the mankind.

The Shannon family including Jim, the father (played by Jason O’Mara); Dr. Elisabeth, the mother (played by Shelley Conn); Josh, the only son (starred by Landon Liboiron); Maddy, their elder daughter (acted by Naomi Scott) and Zoe, their younger daughter
(played by Alana Mansour) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova. As a result they become part of the human colony which gets a second chance to build civilisation.

The family gets a new start there but they face many challenges including carnivorous dinosaurs and the Sixers, a splinter group of colonists with a secret agenda.

The series is based on an idea by British writer Kelly Marcel. The two hour pilot was filmed from mid November to mid December 2010 in Queensland, Australia. Torrential rain caused hindrance in the production. Furthermore, the average episode budget is about
$4 million compared to an average of $3 million for broadcasting network dramas. Episode shots were shot in about eight to nine days but post production took six weeks which is double than television average.

Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly stated, "This thing is going to be huge. It’s going to take an enormous production commitment."

The show received great response from the critics who saw the pilot.

The Los Angeles Times wrote: "Easily the most exciting show of the fall season, Fox’s "Terra Nova" has such obvious, instant and demographically diverse appeal."

It was also one of the eight honourees in the Most Exciting New Series category at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

With a producer like Spielberg, this show is definitely going to be one of a kind and a super hit.
