Training Needs and Pakistan’s Employment market

Training and progress on the professional hierarchy are closely interlinked. Throughout the world, there is a phenomenon of increasing the skills base, technical knowledge and overall acumen of the profession. All these crucial factors contribute towards
enabling one to do multi-tasking, something the modern day world appreciates so much.

However, in case of Pakistan, the awareness about enhancing the skills base is rather limited. Instead of going for specialized trainings, people prefer to go for learning by doing. In certain environments, of course there is no harm in opting for learning
by doing, but in other cases, it causes one to bear huge financial and human costs.

If we consider the development sector for analyzing the peoples’ skills base and the positions they hold, it prevails that there is a solid correlation between the both. In developing world, the crucial skills that work as ladder for the employees are project
proposal writing skills, monitoring and evaluation skills and people’s research acumen.

Just like the other skills, these skills also require one to possess some pre-requisites; failing to come up with not only causes frustration among the employees, but also limits their ability to learn new things. These are the places where mere learning
by doing does not work. However, if proper mentoring is there, the situation becomes altogether different.

An unfortunate phenomenon with the employment market is that although it does offer some of the world class trainings, but they are rather expensive and in the times of unprecedented inflation, it becomes almost impossible for many of the people to afford
them.

The only solution for the situation is that the companies that desire to have a knowledgeable and more productive employee base should come up with the ideas of financing the training sessions of their employees. In fact, not only that, they should also
announce promotions and other incentives for the people who will opt for those trainings. Doing so, will definitely help the companies to retain their employees as well as to become better capable of competing in the cut throat competition at the world level.
The experiment has already successfully done in India, and there is no harm in replicating this success story in Pakistan.
