Tutti-Frutti: the frozen yoghurt shop – sweet but expensive

Islamabad is a city that has gone from nothing, to one of the fastest developing cities in the country in a very short space of time. The city continues to move with the times and one can find almost everything they need in the city.

Now the people of Islamabad have another feather to add to their hat in the form of Tutti-Frutti. Serving six flavours of frozen yoghurt, the venture is looking to make a name for itself as the place to go to for deserts.

The six flavours on offer are Banana, Strawberry, Chocolate, Cheese Cake, Vanilla and plain yoghurt. We tried out the Banana and Cheesecake flavours and found it similar to ice cream, which is not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.

In fact, frozen yoghurt is a healthier alternative to the regular processed ice creams that one buys in grocery stores.

Having said that, there is a bit of kick with frozen yoghurt that one does not get with ice cream. While the latter is rather sweet, the frozen yoghurt has its own distinct, yet subtle flavour.

Taste wise Tutti-Frutti passes with flying colours; however, it does not end there.

When customers walk in they are handed a cup and lead to three frozen yoghurt machines, each with two flavours and are asked to choose their flavour or combination of flavours and fill up their own cups.

While filling one’s cup is an enjoyable experience, there is still more that the place has to offer: the toppings.

From Coco Pops to Fruit Loops, fresh fruit to pieces of chocolates, customers are bombarded with a wide array of toppings to choose from. One needs to be careful here as too many flavours tend to get in each other’s way.

The next bit is where Tutti-Frutti perhaps lets itself down: the price. During our trip one cup cost us in excess of Rs. 200. Yet at the same time, the size of the cup and the amount of frozen yoghurt we managed to squeeze into our cups meant that in terms
of value of money, it made up for it.
