Just how long should the Eid break be?

With everyone still hungover from the Bakra Eid, many find it quite hard to get back to work, school/whatever it is that you are trying to get back to actually, since everyone’s routines have gone down the drain.

The fact that Eid came right after the weekend seemed to be the worst part, since people overdosed on food and slept till 5pm every day, or maybe that was just me. Nonetheless, as I surveyed the F10 markaz in the morning, I realised that most of the stores were still closed and were more than likely enjoying their 4th day of Eid.

Adding those four days with the two days of the weekends ends up giving us six days of a holiday, which practically shut down all the market places in the city. Not only was it close to impossible to get anything from stores, it was practically like exploring a deserted town during the holidays.

Coming back to the point, I believe it is high time for Eid holidays to be kept in check. There should be two standard holidays, while a third should be added, if Eid doesn’t come immediately before or after a weekend.

This way, people can get back to their normal routines, without a lot of difficulty and the market places would end up operating at their normal pace much quicker.

At the same time, considering the half day rule which we follow on Fridays, the country practically ends up wasting that whole day as it is, which is why it just seems kind of ridiculous to be taking so many days off.

All in all, maybe I am just annoyed because I couldn’t find what I was looking for in the market in the morning due to the Eid break, but at the end of the day, the government really needs to put a check on the amount of days that they declare to be holidays, since it’s bad for business and ultimately the economy.
