In Time – Review

The latest installment of writer-director, Andrew Nicol, In Time takes a perception of a future where people are genetically altered to be aged not more than 25. After that, you are given a year to live and in order to prolong your life
span, one has look for other means which includes working, borrowing or even stealing.

Put in simple terms the director has associated Time with Money and based his film on the plot that in the future, monetary measures will reflect time so for instance if someone wants to buy something, he or she is suppose to lend the time he has.

For that, the characters have a glowing green time code on their arms, which helps them to transmit time. If one wants a coffee, he needs to spare four minutes while a luxury car is associated with a time span of 59 years.

A fresh thought, the star studded cast include Justin Timberlake (Will Salas), Matt Bomer (Henry Hamilton), Amanda Seyfried (Sylvia Weis), Cillian Murphy (Raymond Leon), Vincent Kartheiser (Phillipe Weis) and Rachel (Olivia Wilde).

The story takes the ides of Salas, a laborer, earning enough to keep himself alive for the next 24 hours.  One day, he meets Henry Hamilton, who has lived over 100 years and has no desire to carry on and before dying, transfer’s Will, his remaining time
period.

With plenty of time to burn, he is now able to travel and pursue a few luxuries of life. During his endeavors, he meets Sylvia Wies and both fall for each other.

However, Will finds himself in trouble for the murder of Henry and is chased by Timekeeper, Raymond Leon, before finding out that the whole plot involves a system of capitalism where poor will have to die in order for a few to remain wealthy forever.

While whole idea is refreshing, the execution was a lot to be desired as it was too confined to the main characters and their actions to over throw the rich on their own.

The director could have taken a slightly different stance, giving the movie a larger than life approach rather than showing the same old romantic couple doing all the good.  The acting from the main characters was good despite most of the scenes revolved
around Timberlake, which even made the movie a little disappointing in that aspect, where one would have hoped that rather taking the customary pattern, the director could have improvised on such an excellent plot.

Nonetheless, it’s good for a one time watch.
