‘IMMORTALS’ fail to inspire critics, amuse theatre audiences

Tarsem Singh’s ‘IMMORTALS’ failed to live up to expectations as it received mixed or average reviews from top critics.

Singh used Renaissance painting styles for the action and is set in the 1228
B.C.
with no connection to any factual history. The film incorporates classical Greek myths film using 3D technology, necessitating extensive post production.

From the Producers of 300, Immortals follows Theseus (played by Henry Cavill), a mortal man chosen by Zeus to stop the cruel emperor King Hyperion (starred by Mickey Rourke) from obtaining a bow which would unleash titans and can destroy the world.

It was evident that the entire film was shot in a studio and the background was added later just like 300. The flick also dragged in places and unintentional laughter was in the house.

The CGI gore, though, was mind blowing as we get swords in the face, limbs/skulls crushing, impaling and much more.

Mustering it further, the more the film advanced, the bloodier it gets. However, the storyline was not up to the mark, pacing of the movie was bad and the biggest problem was its look.

Metacritic gave an average score of 47 out of 100 based on twenty-one mainstream critics.

The critical consensus from Rotten Tomatoes is, "the melding of real sets, CG work, and Tarsem’s signature style produces fireworks, though the same can’t be said for Immortals’ slack, boring storytelling.

"The site reports 37 percent of seventy-one critics gave a positive review with an average score of 5 out of 10.

IMDB, however, gave a better review i.e. it rated 7.1 out of 10 from its 1842 users. The rating was also based on the reviews by sixty critics.

Richard Corliss of Time Magazine said, “The pity is that Tarsem’s intelligence doesn’t connect his cinematic eye to his narrative mind. The director’s visual gift is like a brilliant retina, detached.”

So all in all, the 75 million budgeted IMMORTALS is a good way to kill your time. It comprises of an all star cast, exceptional visuals and graphics and exceptional fighting actions which you certainly would have never seen before.
