I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true

“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.” Abraham
Lincoln

This famous quote is said by Abraham Lincoln, who was the 16th President of USA. The saying indicates a code of conduct in a man’s life. It highlights the major questions that whether end results justify the means? Whether satisfaction comes only
by getting results or it can also be achieved by doing struggle in the right way.

There are two ways to get the desired results. The first one which is recommended is the hard struggle with responsibility and honesty to achieve the desired results, whereas the other way brings results through wrong doings, malicious plans and shortcuts.

According to Abraham Lincoln, end doesn’t justify the means rather means justify the end. The struggle matters a lot and if it is done with honesty and dedication, no matter one gets his desired results or not, he will be satisfied with his effort. The major
point is how one thinks and acts. There is always a choice in one’s decisions and actions. It is up to the man whether he selects the right path to reach at the destination or he goes for the other option that does not have dignity in it.

It also draws a clear line between materialism and ethical aspect of life. Materialism always keeps an eye on the end results without giving any consideration of means or ways through which that results are being achieved. The ethical aspect of the matter
throws light on the means, struggle or the way through which a person moves forward towards his destination.

To remain true to one’s affairs and choose what is right in any way whatsoever, is the characteristic of a dignified man and also a sign of real satisfaction that also earns the result in the real sense. Adopting the right and true means and avoiding the
foul ones, is the real purpose of man’s creation.

A person who identifies the real essence of his life also finds the right path and struggles with the best of his belief without thinking about the consequences or end results. He finds his struggle quite satisfactory and moves forward by having pride in
his true and dedicated effort.

The true man is that who always stands with the truth and the right way in all of his dealings. He goes on by keeping himself on the right and true path and his every step towards the destination is as important as the destination itself. That is the why;
he remains satisfied with his right and pious thinking and acts.

The real satisfaction comes by following the truth and doing everything with honesty. One should do what he/she can in the right direction and everything will automatically turn out well in his favour.
