Pakistan opens up Tourism Stall at the ExCel London 2011 World Tourism Mart

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Ministry finally jolted into action on the direct instructions of the Minister for Tourism, Sports, Archaeology and Youth Affairs Syed Aqil Shah to set up a Pakistan Tourism Stall at the ExCel London 2011 World Tourism Mart on
Thursday. Shah who himself have been associated with the tourism industry for a considerable period of time, has decided to lift the swirling Tourism industry on war footings and the Stall will come as a fresh breakthrough in the regard.

After the government proposed Bill called the 18th amendment which gave the provinces the right to manage the tourist activities on their own, KPK province has taken the lead in promoting tourism and rightfully so. Several established tour operators
in the country were also present at the expo to offer their services to the interested prospects who kept visiting the stall in substantial strength. Tour operators like Adventure Tours Pakistan, Karakorum Explorers, Himalayan Holidays and Pakistan’s World
renowned mountaineer Nazir Sabir’s Expedition Company were at the forefront of the exhibition, displaying breathtaking photographs and documentaries to the foreign visitors.

Deputy High Commissioner Nafees Zakaria of the Pakistan High Commission in the UK was also present along with other diplomatic staff to help Aqil Shah and his staff with the administrative issues of the stall. Aqil Shah also revealed the ambitious plan of
the KPK government to promote the industry in the upcoming year. He discussed his government’s plan to hold similar exhibitions at Tourism Festival Spain, International Tourism Festival Beijing China, International Tourism Festival Italy, and International
Tourism Festival Berlin Germany during 2012.

The minister also mentioned the various steps taken to promote the industry in the present year after the Ministry’s portfolio was handed down to him, which included the high quality snaps being displayed at most of the Pakistani consulates and embassies
in Europe along with showcasing professional documentaries featuring the scenic Northern areas of Pakistan.

The tourism industry has been lurking in shadows since the War on Terror was unleashed following the gory 9/11 incident. The KPK province has a lion’s share of the most visited destinations by the foreign community and also is a source of lucrative capital
both for the government as well as several tour operators in the region.
