Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the former minister for foreign affairs and MNA of Pakistan Peoples’ Party has resigned from both the party membership and the national assembly. According to the news, Qureshi who had also been a member and a minister in PML (N) government
in the past is now expected to join Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaaf.

Qureshi was reported to have concerns over the present incumbent’s submissive correspondence with its American counterparts. He was not happy over the way Raymond Davis – the killer of two Pakistani citizens in Lahore was allowed to get away with his heinous
crime. The former minister for foreign affairs was not happy over USA’s demands for the military operation in North Waziristan either, and thus, was made to leave his position to appease the American government.

Earlier, there had been news about Qureshi joining the PML (N) all over again. The news was based on the fact that he had met Nawaz Sharif and had an interest in rejoining the party he previously belonged to. However, realizing the fact that people of the
land of the pure were no more interested in sustaining the status quo, he too probably decided to not to swim against the current.

Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI while talking in a talk show at a private channel today, claimed that he was going to organize a rally on November 27 in Ghotiki – the electoral constituency of Mr. Qureshi. To him, the rally was expected to witness a real
participation by the masses where the former Minister for Foreign affairs was expected to formally join Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaaf.

Today, while announcing the news about his resignation before the media personnel, Qureshi blamed President Asif Ali Zardari for turning Benazir Bhutto’s Peoples Party into ‘Zardari League’. He said that corruption was rampant in the country and the national
assets including state run institutions were going into huge loss amid the unbridled corruption and nepotism. To him, this was the high time for all the political parties and honest parliamentarians to resign from the membership of the national and provincial
assemblies and to demand for the new elections.
