Oprah Winfrey receives the Oscar statuette for the charity and humanitarian work

The American media proprietor Oprah Winfrey, who is best known for her self-titled and multi award winning programme ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’, was honoured with the Oscar award last weekend for her tremendous charity and humanitarian work.

The 57-year-old megastar Oprah, who has dominated the television talk-shows for more than two decades, was given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in Los Angeles.

Oprah Winfrey was ecstatic on the occasion when she was given the Oscar statuette and stated that she had never imagined that someone like her who was born in a small town of Kosciusko in 1954 will be every honoured this way.

“I never imagined myself receiving an Oscar, especially for what I’m considering my calling.” Oprah said.

During the ceremony, Oprah recalled her grandmother used to tell her that she wishes Oprah Winfrey would find “some good white folks” where she can work in the future.

“Nobody could ever imagine that it would be possible that you could be anything other than a maid, who had some good white folks who would give her clothes and let her take food home for the holiday. It’s unimaginable that I would be standing before you
tonight.” Winfrey said.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science has been giving out the award from time to time since 1956. Previously, Bob Hope, Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, Paul Newman and Jerry Lewis have received the honour which was given to Oprah
Winfrey this time.

Oprah is now one of the richest women in America and he has done a great deal of work in the field of charity throughout his celebrity life. According to Forbes Magazine, Oprah Winfrey’s wealth is estimated to be around 2.4 billion dollars.

At present, Winfrey is the president of a media company Harpo Production and also co-founder of women’s cable television network Oxygen.
