“Immortal” beats DiCaprio’s “J.Edgar” to top Box Office

Immortals fended stiff competition from Leonardo DiCaprio’s J Edgar and Adam Sandlers comedy flick, Jack and Jill to emerge as the biggest grosser of this week.

The expensive 3D epic movie, Immortals collected 32 million dollars in its opening week. Directed by Tarsem Singh and starring Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto, the adventure is based on Greek Myths od Theseus, the Minotaur and Titanomachy is first on every
people’s watch list. Under a survey the audience mainly composed of young males, which was a good news for Hollywood as such category of movie lovers were hard to cater in recent times.

The next in line is Sandler’s comedy, Jack and Jill which is centered around him playing a successful Los Angeles advertising executive and his identical twin sister Jill. The box office collections are in the region of 25 million dollars, however, it is
amongst Sandlers lowest grossing flick. However, one expect it to conquer other international markets making it a profitable venture.

Puss in Boots, the animated kids venture came in third this week after topping the charts for the previous seven days. Starring Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Zach Galifianakis in the voice over work, the movie collected 25.5 million in the domestic market.
With strong position overseas, it remains one of the top grosser of the year.

Tower Heist, starring Eddie Murphy was ranked fourth at an estimated business of 12.7 million.

The biggest surprise though was DiCaprio, J.Edgar, which managed to collectjust over 11 millions in its opening week. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the movie sees the Inception star as late FBI director J.Edgar Hoover, who headed the Bureau for 48 years. The
producer, Warner Bros opened the movie in seven theaters in order to spread its popularity. The movie fared much better in the International market and is expected to eclipse Eastwood previous movie, Hereafter.

The next is “A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas” (23.2 million) followed by Justin Timberlake’s future sci-fi flick In Time, which grossed a total of 30.7 million in the domestic market.
