Shah Mehmood Qureshi to join Tehreek-e-Insaaf

Shah Mehmood Qureshi has recently resigned from the Pakistan People’s Party. Mehmood has also held the position of being the Foreign Minister of the country once.

The resignation of Qureshi also means that he will no longer be a member of the Pakistan National Assembly. After having left the PPP, the former Foreign Minister of the country has plans of joining with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf. The joining of Mehmood
with the party of the former cricketer will take place on the 27th of this month.

The former Foreign Minister of Pakistan made the following comments while talking about the issue to the reporters present outside the Parliament House: “My association with PPP goes back a long time and today it is coming to end. Zardari buried the politics
of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto along with her as well as has betrayed the vision of Mohtarma. I am leaving the Zardari league, and: I have quit the membership of the PPP. There is no PPP now. It has become a Zardari league. I announce that I will not remain associated
with the Zardari league. Those who were foes of Benazir Bhutto are new friends of President Zardari. I was barred from attending a CEC meeting despite having the membership intact.”

While talking about his reasons for quitting the party Mehmood has been associated with for so long, Mehmood specifically pointed out to the reason for leaving the PPP. According to the former Foreign Minister, the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari,
had been putting pressure on Mehmood to declare diplomatic immunity for the CIA contractor who was responsible for shooting two Pakistani men. The shooting had taken place in January of this year. In response to this demand which seemed unreasonable to Mehmood,
the former Foreign Minister refused to comply. This episode between the President and the former Foreign Minister acted as the trigger that resulted in Mehmood giving his resignation from the PPP.

Mehmood is strongly supported by the southern districts of Punjab as well as the rural areas of the Singh province. These two areas were the ones where Imran Khan was weak in but the joining of Mehmood will provide Khan with added strength.
