Parvez Musharraf rates Imran Khan as the best politician of the current lot

Former Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf has admitted that Imran Khan is the best politician in the country amongst the current lot. He shared these views while giving an exclusive interview to NDTV on Thursday, November 17, 2011.

Musharraf had no doubts over the honesty of Imran and said, “He means what he says. Maybe, although at times, one sees some variations in statements but, however, I think he means well. He is a patriotic man. So, since he has not been tested, he is, out
of the lot, the best of the lot to be given a chance.”

The founder of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) was also confident of doing well in the general elections and said that he can sense a change in the country.

According to the former army chief, “Unless we break this political status quo and create another political alternative, I think Pakistan will continue on this downward trend as we are going. In breaking the political status quo, in creating a new political
dynamic, I see a wind, a changing wind. The winds are changing in Pakistan.”

Musharraf has vowed to return back in Pakistan early in 2012 and fight against poverty, illiteracy and unawareness. He admitted that some of his actions might have harmed the country, but clarified that he was a patriotic person and never thought of hurting
the image of his beloved motherland.

Despite praising Imran, who is the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Musharraf said that it will not be an easy task for the former cricketer to do well in the elections.

According to the ex-army chief, handling a team of eleven players is far easier than running a political party. He further added that Imran’s successful rally at the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore does not mean he will go onto win the elections easily.

On the other hand, Imran has challenged the opposition parties that he will wipe out the next elections, as the youth of Pakistan is backing him.

The former captain of Pakistan cricket team further went onto thank the media for politicising the youngsters in the country.
