US, China to assist Pakistan in overcoming energy crisis

United States on Wednesday expressed interest in assisting Pakistan in its hydro energy power projects to overcome the prevailing energy crisis in the country. This was revealed by the United States Ambassador in Pakistan, Cameron Munter.

Munter, while addressing a students’ gathering at Syndicate Hall, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, said that United States really understand Pakistan was going through hard times and is willing to assist it in overcoming the energy crisis which crippling
country’s industry.

The US Ambassador said that Pakistan is capable of transferring the crisis into opportunities adding that all that they need is to launch an awareness campaign among the people about how to avert the disasters due to climate changes.

Pakistan has been struck by devastating floods in 2010 and 2011 which caused huge humanitarian as well as infrastructure loss. United States is generously assisting government of Pakistan in rehabilitation of flood survivors. Munter said that his country
would also provide an equal opportunity to Pakistan to sell their goods in US markets on competitive grounds.

In the meanwhile, Sindh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Chinese company, Orient Group of Energy for wind energy.

The MoU was signed in Beijing on Wednesday, by the Secretary Investment, Coal and Energy, Mohammed Younus Dagha on behalf of the Sindh government.  The MOU was signed in the presence of Speaker Sindh assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, who is leading the Pakistan
delegation to China.

Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, Khuhro said that the Sindh province of Pakistan was rich in natural resources, and offered the Chinese entrepreneurs to come to Pakistan and assist Pakistan in exploring these natural resources for mutual interest of Pakistan and China.

The chairman of Orient Group of Energy, Zhang Hongwei agreed that Sindh has huge potential and the Chinese companies should benefit from the opportunities offered by government of Sindh.

He further added that Sindh is rich in all kinds of energy generation resources including hydro, solar, wind and biogas. All that is needed is to exploit these energy resources and help the provincial government improve socio-economic condition of the masses.
