Mushtaq Ahmad Yousafi, the living legend of Pakistan Part 2

Furthermore, Yousafi highlights the hidden and supposed to be hidden aspects of life in a light manner. His works reflect the double standards of our society which people adopt on various occasions. His deep observation, in-depth study and wide ranged connections
various walks of life make the scripts authentic and heartily felt.

A reader with ordinary sense of humour can’t live without laughing and feeling touchy after going through his works. Dr Zaheer Fatehpuri, a renowned Urdu writer has rightly tributed him while saying that, ‘we are living in the humour age of Yousafi"

Another prominent humorist of Urdu literature, Ibn-e-Insha, wrote about Yousufi “if ever we could give a name to the literary humour of our time, then the only name that comes to mind is that of Yousufi.”

Just read these lines and enjoy the long lasting taste of his captivating words. He says, “I like Ghalib, Hawkes Bay and okra (bhindi). I like the smell of newly printed currency notes. For a pet I like dogs. The first dog I had, was for security. It was
stolen! Now I have a dog for a different reason. That is, man is dog’s best friend! Muslims have a logic behind their dislike for dogs… they do not like animals which they cannot eat!… I love music, therefore, I don’t listen to the radio… I don’t like
emotional men and unemotional women.”

While highlighting the incident of his birth and the reason behind of being called Yousafi, he wrote, “Okay, if you insist, let me tell you that I was born on August 4, 1923 and it was a premature birth! My ancestors were Yusufzai Pathans settled in Jaipur.
When my father visited Peshawar and introduced himself as a Pathan Yusufzai, everyone laughed. He returned to Jaipur and stopped calling himself a Yusufzai or a Pathan. However, he gave the family a new name – Yousufi.”

He has honoured with two big accolades by Pakistani government for his unmatchable services to Urdu literature. He received Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-i-Imtiaz, the highest literary honours by the Government of Pakistan in 1999.
