Omar Qureshi and Ekta Kapoor ‘The Dirty Picture’ only shows what goes in the society

Young producer Ekta Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘The Dirty Picture’ is being criticised by a lot out of people who believe the sexual contents and bold language used in the film is going to put a bad impact
on the society.

However, Ekta Kapoor along with film critic Omar Qureshi doesn’t agree with the fact as they believe a film only shows what goes in the society.

‘The Dirty Picture’ in which Emraan Hashmi, Tusshar Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah and Bollywood buzz Vidya Balan will be seen playing lead roles is based on the life of late Southern sex icon Silk Smitha. Thus
the film includes some pretty bold statements i.e. Vidya Balan saying to Tusshar Kapoor ‘Mujhe jo chahiye uska mazza raat ko hee aata hai’ yet Qureshi and Ekta reckon the film should not be targeted.

Qureshi told the media the society has changed a lot now and a majority among the women don’t mind having an extramarital affair. Qureshi also stated a majority of them now likes to party, drink and smoke
and that is why now Indian cinema is not like it was before.

"Basically, cinema reflects what happens in society. So the homemaker, subservient, silent sufferer and ‘pativrata’ woman of yesterday, was what was shown in Hindi movies earlier. But as times changed
and society became more democratic and liberal, the woman’s portrayal underwent a change on the big screen too," film critic Omar Qureshi told IANS.

Meanwhile, Ekta also defended her upcoming film. She insisted since the film is based on a sexual life of a woman, they had to use a bold language.

"My film The Dirty Picture is about a woman revelling in her sexuality. There is a very definite line between sexuality and raunchiness, and our story is about this woman who lived her life with
aplomb. It is a brave and bold performance, no doubt, but one needs to see how actresses are getting more comfortable in their skin nowadays," Ekta told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

‘The Dirty Picture’ is due to release on December 2, 2011 on the birth anniversary of Silk Smitha.
