Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani discards any undemocratic change

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani discarded any undemocratic change in the country on Friday, as he said that, ‘only people will bring change in 2013 through elections’.

This statement came from the Prime Minister after several questions were raised by the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and other lawmakers. The opposition PML-N and the other lawmakers raised these questions after the news broke in that Pakistan’s
ambassador to United States of America, Hussain Haqqani send an alleged letter that was addressed to a highly ranked US military official (Mike Mullen).

In this alleged note Haqqani assured this high ranked US official on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari that if US support them in replacing the Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, then he’ll surely provide US the assurance of launching an operation against
the Mula Haqqani network in North Waziristan.

The news of this alleged letter caused a lot of buzz in several fractions of Pakistan. As a result of that PML-N the major opposing party and few other politicians had raised questions. Addressing the answers of these questions PM Gilani said that he had
already issued a statement regarding the situation here on the parliament floor in reply to the question raised by the Leader of the Opposition in the House, Chaudhry Nisar.

Therefore PM Gilani urged the opposition that, “raising this issue time and again is wastage of time. There are also several other issues in the country which should be discussed.” Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani also said that he had already asked for an explanation
from Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, so he could clarify his stance on this act, until then, “Let us wait for the ambassador’s explanation,” he said, before taking an action.

Prime Minister Gilani had also reminded the opposition that government is aware of it’s duty. As, after the Abbottabad episode, the federal government had called on the in camera session on the demand of the opposition and the heads of concerned authorities
briefed them about the entire scenario in detail.

PM also said that panic should not be spread just on the reports of the newspapers, as ‘blame game’ wouldn’t serve anyone. In addition to that he said that government will always protect it’s national institutions including the security agencies in accord
with the country’s constitution.
