Microsoft SUR40, in collaboration with Samsung, is ready for pre-order

The second generation Microsoft SUR40 is now available for pre-order on Microsoft and Samsung’s websites. The Table Top computer is available at a hefty price starting from $8400 (display only) to $9049 (with stand legs).

This computer can be placed on floor as a table with its stand legs and can also be mounted on the wall like an LCD television.

The amount, though seems to be a huge dough—twice as much the user can pay to purchase a full size TV and a high-end CPU with all the electronic gismos, has been cut to half as compared to first generation table top that required projectors for display.

The strategic alliance with Samsung has not only brought the prices down from $12,500 but the multi-touch screen has also been improved with more than 50 points of contact powered by PixelSense. The backlight is lit with an LED source and the full HD 1080p
screen is protected with a Gorilla Glass that is both water and oil proof.

The OS inside is the first-born Microsoft Surface that is developed solely to cater to this specific market.

The system is powered by a dual-core 2.9 GHz AMD Athlon X2 processor and is supported by 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. The storage device has a capacity of 320 GB.

The table top can be connected to the internet via 802.11n WiFi device integrated into the chipset. It also has Bluetooth for local communication with other devices. On the edges are 4 USB, one Ethernet, HDMI In, HDMI Out, SD Card Reader and Stereo 3.5 mm
ports.

Microsoft introduced the computer in January at Consumer Electronic Show but at that time it needed some improvements to the software and some tweaks to the hardware. However, the company claimed that their table top is up with all the upgrading.

As of yet, Dassault Aviation, Fujifilm, Red Bull, Royal Bank of Canada, and Sheraton Hotels & Resorts Worldwide have pre-ordered the device. More customers are expected to pool in the initial launch in 28 countries. However, Samsung and Microsoft announced
that it will surge into more territories in the latter half of 2012.
