Attitude problem in public sector offices

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011 7:07:42 by

Visiting Pakistan’s public offices for some fair and legal piece of work, you will have to face the wrath of the government officials and their staff whose salaries are funded by the taxes you pay day in day out. Those who are supposed to serve you, pose
to be dictators and assert unlawful authority for which they are not accountable, neither in the court nor before their conscientious.

Entering the premises of a public office after going through many security checks, the first thing you confront with is the lack of information. You do not know the concerned person whom you have to deal with. There are no indicators, no menus and no front
desks available to tell you that how can you accomplish your task. It creates a lot of nuisance at first hand.

After wasting much time and enduring scolds of peons, you are able to understand the situation. Most of the time, the concerned authority is not available in his/her office. Oh fuck! It ignites depression and frustration. In case, luckily, you succeed in
getting the wanted person, either you are asked to come again or stay outside and wait. The wait which often has no time frame. Sometimes, after a long wait, you are kicked out by saying that the boss is busy in ‘crucial’ meeting.

Much to your fortune, if the concerned person agrees for the task, you have to grease his palms with your hard-earned money as all government employees consider it to be their ‘due’ privilege. Bribery has become a norm wherever in Pakistan. If a civilised
and educated citizen tires to defy it, he has to end up facing sheer humiliation and even isolation as the corrupt society does not accept such righteous elements who may disrupt their fools’ paradise.

This exploitative system, which we all are part of knowingly or unknowingly, has turned Pakistan into a tough place to live. The corruption is so deeply embedded in the society that it flows with our blood. There is no easy and fair way to get your due civil
rights. You are bound to adopt unjust means to attain what you deserve more than others. What a hell this is?

Despite all these odds, do not lose heart. Disappointment is not the solution. Frustration is not the way. Just mend your own ways and rise up to overhaul the system. No one from outside will do it. We have to do, we have to change and we have to make the
green soil a peaceful and comfortable place. Let us defy the norm and challenge the oppression.

Remember, it is not rebellion. It is a struggle for survival.
