Singer and rapper Nicki Minaj was honoured as Billboard’s 2011 ‘Rising Star’ on Wednesday, with credentials from her international success this year with her album, ‘Pink Friday’.

Minaj, 28, who is signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, grabbed the opportunity of Billboard’s announcement to substantiate her subsequent album on Twitter. Billboard’s editorial director Bill Werde, said, “Nicki Minaj has established herself
as a force in hip-hop and pop music, and we’re thrilled to recognize her accomplishments over the past year,”

Set for release on February 14, Valentine’s day next year, Minaj’s second album will be called “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,” after the rapper’s alter ego, Roman Zolanski.

Hailing from New York, Minaj reached the top of charts this year and became the first artist to have seven songs in the Hot 100 singles chart at the same time, including hits such as “Your Love,” “Super Bass” and “Fly” featuring Rihanna, while “Pink Friday”
reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The young paragon artist is the fourth beneficiary of the distinction after Jazmine Sullivan in 2010, Lady Gaga in 2009 and Colbie Caillat in 2008. Minaj will join country music star Taylor Swift, who was named Woman of the Year, to collect the award at
the annual Billboard Women in Music event in New York on December 2.

Minaj started her music career in 2007. She released her first mixtape ‘Playtime Is Over’. The mixtape was followed by the mixtapes ‘Sucka Free’ and ‘Beam Me Up Scotty’ released in 2008 and 2009, respectively. Minaj had her first label success after fellow
American rapper, Lil Wayne explored and secured a record deal with her with Young Money Entertainment, distribution from Universal Motown Records, in August 2009.

Her 2010 album, ‘Pink Friday’,  became a chart-topper, reaching at the top of the U.S. Billboard 200 and received certification of Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) just a month after its release.

On Saturday, January 29, 2011, Minaj appeared on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest. She sang her hit songs “Right Thru Me” and “Moment 4 Life”. On February 9, 2011, it was announced that Pink Friday had reached number one on the Billboard 200 in its
eleventh week on the chart.
