Conan the Barbarian – a summer release

When we were kids we all had our own childhood heroes, some were stuck with the cliché of ‘my dad’ and others had superheroes. Then there were some who idealized warriors and imagined lands of fantasy. One of the most beloved warriors of all time was Conan
the Barbarian.

This summer Nu Image/Millennium Films decided to exploit the love children had for this warrior. Actually the decision had been taken two years back, the movie released this summer.

This year’s movie was a new adaptation of the mythical character created by Robert E.Howard. The story was kept the same, with a child who lives in a barbarian village with the memory and the faces of the warriors who killed his family. Years later, the
child becomes a warrior brave and strong man able to avenge the death of his loved ones.

The most legendary barbarian of all time was set to return this summer, and return, it did. Having thrived and evolved for eight consecutive decades in the collective imagination – in prose and illustration, on the big screen and small, in games and in all imaginable shapes
and properties. -Conan’s exploits in the Hyborian Age were supposed to come to life.

The tale in the movie describes a search that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior and quickly becomes an epic battle that shows huge and horrific monsters as rivals. Against all hope of victory, Conan realizes that he is the only
chance of the great nations of Hyboria against the invasion of an evil supernatural force.

The remake of Conan the Barbarian is an entertaining film with plenty of adventure and many action scenes. It fulfils its mission to entertain perfectly.

The movie is basically an action scene after another, some laughter from time to time and little else. If you like sword fights and do not have fear or phobia of blood, this film will make you a good time.

I liked the interpretation Ron Perlman as Conan’s father (Hellboy), although other interpretations are rather vage. The main actor Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo in "Game of Thrones") says he had to follow a strict diet of protein to become Conan, but apart from being a
mass of 1.93 meters muscles, he managed nothing remarkable.

In short an entertaining film, very similar in quality to "Prince of Persia" although it could have been better.
