Michael Jackson’s personal physician Conrad Murray sentenced to prison for four years

Doctor Conrad Murray, who was convicted of causing Michael Jackson’s death, has been sentenced to jail for four years. The judge also described him as a “disgrace to the medical profession”
for his actions at the conclusion of the hearing.

Judge Michael Pastor handed down the maximum sentence to the guilty, which was demanded by the pop star’s mother in a letter to the court, for a charge of involuntary manslaughter. Pastor
criticised Murray and said that the doctor had indulged in a horrible cycle of medicine and had committed a horrific violation of singer’s trust.

At the time of sentence, Murray did not show any emotional gestures, like he was not guilty, and sat silently in front of the judge. He even declined to address the court. On this occasion,
Jackson’s family members, including his mother Katherine, were also sitting a few yards away from Murray.

Judge Pastor said delivering the sentence, “Dr Murray engaged in money for medicine madness that is not to going to be tolerated by me. This was an unacceptable, egregious series of departures
from the accepted standard of care. An honourable profession bears the scourge, the blot of what happened here.”

He added, “There are those who feel Dr Murray is a saint, there are those who feel Dr Murray is the devil. He is neither. He is a human being and he stands convicted of the death of another
human being. He has absolutely no sense of remorse or fault and is, and remains, dangerous.”

The legendary pop star, Michael Jackson, died on June 25, 2009 in Los Angeles, where he was rehearsing for a series of planned 50 concerts at O2 Arena in London. Murray was hired as his
personal physician to look after Jackson during his rehearsals.

Murray admitted that he used to give Jackson propofol, a powerful anaesthetic, to help him sleep. When a jury convicted him of involuntary manslaughter earlier this month, he denied the
charges of murder and claimed that the amount of propofol he gave to the pop singer was too small to kill him.
