PPP leadership stands by with President Asif Ali Zardari

The mainstream leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Thursday assured their full support in the current political scenario with President Asif Ali Zardari particularly in controversial memogate crisis, which was taken up by the Supreme Court on
the petition of Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders.

Reports said that script of Babar Awan and Khursheed Shah’s press conference was prepared and approved in the presidency after the Supreme Court directed the President to submit his reply in the memogate issue along with others.

President’s spokesperson, Farhatullah Babar, issued a short press note stating that the PPP’s leaders held a meeting with Asif Zardari.

According to presidential spokesperson, “President Zardari while speaking to the PPP’s leaders said that he knew how to handle all challenges. He also asked the nation to show confidence of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

However, reports explained that the situation erupted after the memogate issue and NATO attack was discussed in the meeting which was attended by a number of important party figures including Babar Awan, Federal Ministers Firdous Ashiq Awan, Qamar Zaman
Kaira and Khursheed Shah.

Babar Awan briefed President Asif Zardari about the legalities of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the memogate issue. The president was wondered that how the apex court heard the case without issuing notices to federation and the most concerned person, Hussain
Haqqani.  

According to the media reports, the president was unhappy over the attitude of PML-N Chief, Nawaz Sharif, for moving the court against him in the memo issue and asked his legal team to make a way out from the crisis as early as possible.

During the meeting, PPP’s leaders vowed to stand united with the president and assured him full support in memogate issue. President Zardari said to his teammates that they would go all together to tackle the current political crisis.

Reports further stated that PPP’s leaders also have decided to hold public rallies in favour of the Party’s Co-Chairpersons to ease the situation.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier in the day during the hearing of the case, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif prayed before the court that he had come there to record statement against President Zardari.

The meeting also discussed the implications of Nawaz Sharif’s petition and its impact on the president and the government.
