Redefining Paradigms of Sustainable Development in South Asia; the conference to commence on 13-15 December 2011, in Islamabad, Pakistan
The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) is holding its Fourteenth Sustainable Development Conference (SDC) titled
“Redefining Paradigms of Sustainable Development in South Asia” from 13—15 December 2011 in Islamabad, Pakistan .
The SDC series has been established as a prime conference in South Asia on development issues attracting leading intellectuals, development practitioners, media, communities, legislators and policy-makers working in or on South Asian issues. In the previous
conference, over 100 delegates participated from 12 countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, USA and the UK. An anthology (a critical outcome of each SDC), based on peer-reviewed papers,
titled “Peace and Sustainable Development in South Asia : The Way Forward”
will also be launched at the occasion.
Conference Format:
There will be one main plenary each day in which prominent keynote speakers will be invited to address significant areas as highlighted in the overarching theme. The plenary will be followed by two to four concurrent sessions/panels on sub-themes. The plenary
will last for one hour and 30 minutes while the duration of each panel will be two hours and 30 minutes with three to five presentations.
SDC 2011 Sub-themes:
Some of the broad sub-themes to be covered under the overarching theme of ‘Redefining Paradigms of Sustainable Development in South Asia ’ include:
Environment and Climate Change; Conflict, Peace and National Security; Judicial Reforms and Good Governance; Energy Sector; Gender; Education and Literature; Transboundary Natural Resource Management; The magnitude of Illegal Economy; and Post 18th Amendment
issues.
