Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime: First hands-on review of the quad-core slate – Part 1

AsusTek, Inc. launched its newest tablet, Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime earlier in November. The slate was made available to technology experts for hands-on reviews this week.

The new instalment to the Transformer series, with Prime affixed at the end, brings a lot to the table. However, this host of highest technology showed fluctuating performances on the chart.

The Specifications

Prime comes with the latest and most powerful processor in the market, a quad-core Tegra 3 chip that will do the maths. The processor is supported by 1 GB of RAM that will be sufficient to feed to the Android Honeycomb 3.2.1 and its various applications.
The operating system can be upgraded to the latest Google release, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Given the specifications, the latest OS should work marvels on this slate.

The tablet comes with two storage denominations, 32 GB and 64 GB but an extra micro-SD cards slot is nestled at the left side that can support up to 32 GB diminutive card.

As far as the casing is concerned, Asus has pulled off marvellous craftsmanship in Aluminium sheets. Not only does the casing give a solid touch, it also comes in the graceful colours, amethyst gray (gray and purple) and champagne gold (silver and gold).
The purple colour does not always come at the top of a wish list but Asus has brilliantly amalgamated sliver and purple to give a flamboyant yet sober shade.

The metal casing however, makes the tablet a little heavier, per se. The depth is a hair’s breadth slimmer than the iPad 2 but it is heavier than Apple’s flagship product. But given the equal weight distribution, it only gives a slight weighty feeling.

Asus proclaimed that the tablet is stainless to oil and finger-prints but there might be a little exaggeration in their statement. Where the back Aluminium-side comes up to the test, the screen succumbs to stains. However, it still is bearable to watch and
touch the tablet.

There is a volume rocker and microphone pinhole on the left side with micro-SD and micro-HDMI ports. On the top there is another microphone pinhole with power/sleep button. The bottom has a micro-USB port for data transfer and power input.
