CNG stations in Faisalabad to remain close for three days

According to a spokesman of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Pakistan is facing a severe shortage of gas. To overcome the deficit, SNGPL a load management schedule is being implemented for CNG stations for two days in
a week but when the shortage gets severe, the company extends the gas closure up to three days.

The new schedule will get implemented from 6 am of Thursday, December 8 till 6 am on December 11.

The representative also warned of the consequences CNG station will have to face if they are found guilty of disobeying the scheme. SNGPL spokesperson said, “In case of violation, they will be handed down heavy fines besides legal
action and cutting of gas connection.”

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will also follow government plan for managing the gas shortfall. As per SSGC, gas supply to CNG stations in Karachi as well as other cities of Sindh will be halted for 18-hour. The load shedding
will start from 11 pm on December 8 (Thursday) to 5 pm on December 9 (Friday).

An SSGC press release said, “The decision to stop supply to CNG stations for 18 hours was taken after a meeting between SSGC management, office-bearers and members of CNG associations at the company’s head office.”

During the meeting, SSGC demand the CNG industry stakeholders to stop their operations for 18 hours as the demand has risen in winter and the additional load caused by consumption of gas in northern parts of Sindh and the entire
Balochistan.

The SSGC reckons that the closure has become absolutely necessary to prevent the company’s line pack to fall substantially on December 10, which may put the entire distribution system under heavy strain and cause pressure to drop
substantially.

The association of CNG station operators has beg to differ from SSGC plans and protesting against the load shedding has said that this is not the right way to overcome gas shortage.

Junaid Esmail, The leader of CNG station owners association, said “Around 50 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas was being consumed earlier. Now it has jumped to 90 mmcfd.”
