PML-N Raja Zafar ul Haq flays criticism on the government for making the parliament redundant

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz)’s Chairman, Senator Raja Zafar ul Haq, targeted the government for making the parliament redundant by ignoring its’ all decisions, resolutions and instructions. In his view, the masses have lost their confidence on the legislative
institution.

Raja Zafar Ul Haq, a politician from Punjab, was nominated as a member of the Central Working Committee of the PML, back in 1973. He worked for the party in different capacities including federal minister, opposition leader in the Senate, Leader of the House
as well as ambassador.

Speaking to the media, the Senator stated that the government was not implementing the decisions and resolutions passed through the parliament and now people are considering it only a rubber-stamp.

He further said that decisions regarding giving the status of Most Favourite Nation to India should be taken by the parliament not the federal cabinet.

“The parliament should have been consulted instead of being informed. We are a democratic state and parliament cannot be ignored in parliamentary form of government,” he added.

Raja Zafar ul Haq maintained that relationships with India should be improved and necessary steps must be taken in this regard but national interest should be the primary focus in the entire process.

Regarding PML-N campaign against the government, he said that PML-N would continue its campaign against the government, which was in fact a fight against corruption, mismanagement and anarchy.

“Although the constitutional term of the government is for five years, but the present government cannot be let completed its term due to corruption and problem faced by the masses,” he said adding it would be cruelty to the public if they would be left
on the mercy of the corrupt government until 2013.

The Senator continued that his party had no personal grudge with Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari. However, bad governance is the real issue behind all the debacles. He said that presidency is being used for making conspiracies
against political opponents. “Asif Zardari should quit the presidency or the party chairmanship,” Raja demanded.

To a question regarding increasing popularity of Imran Khan, especially in Punjab, the PML-N Chairman said that he (Imran) was not a major political threat to his party in the province.

“He is a politician and has right to do politic in every nook and corner of the country,” he added. He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was also establishing its set up in Punjab, which was its right to do so, but people would reject them in the
elections. He said that PML-N and Imran Khan were of the same view and that was the elimination of corruption in the country.
