Life possible on Mars says Australian scientist Charley Lineweaver

Scientists in Australia have claimed that life could be possible on Mars, as large parts on the planet have conditions similar to Earth.

Charley Lineweaver from the Australian National University (ANU) conducted a research, comparing models of the Earth and Mars, and found out that there were many similarities in the distant planets.

According to Charley, “What we tried to do, simply, was take almost all of the information we could and put it together and say ‘is the big picture consistent with there being life on Mars?’ And the simple answer is yes… There are large regions of Mars
that are compatible with terrestrial life.”

The Aussie scientist further added that his study was the best estimate yet published of how habitable Mars is to terrestrial microbe.

He added, “It’s not important if you want to figure out what the laws of physics are and you want to talk to some intelligent aliens who could build spaceships. If you’re interested in the origin of life and how likely life is to get started on other planets,
that’s what relevant here.”

Earlier studies had revealed signs of life on the Red planet, but none was comprehensive enough to conclude anything.

However, the study conducted by ANU is claimed to be a complete one and is based on data collected over the past couple of decades.

In the past, robotic probes have been sent on Mars in order to find evidence of life or the possibility of it on the planet.

Water has been found on the distant planet, but in frozen form. It is one of the key ingredients of existence of life, but the scientists are in search of some other elements, which would ensure that life is actually possible on Mars.

NASA has also been attempting to find life’s habitat on Mars. According to California Institute of Technology planetary scientist John Grotzinger, lead researcher for NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory, “I’d be surprised if we landed on the surface (of Mars)
and didn’t find something that looked like it could have been a formerly habitable environment.”
