Panasonic returns to European mobile market

After leaving the European market for mobile telephony, the Japanese manufacturer Panasonic has announced their return. In 2012, Panasonic will enter the European market with models equipped with Android operating system.

 So far, they have not provided many details about the product, whose commercial name is also unknown. Panasonic made this decision after facing a growing and powerful competition in their cable television services.

They are not the only Japanese manufacturer rethinking thier strategy in Europe regarding mobile telephony. Sharp has done the same and another notable television manufacturer, Sony, have acquired Ericsson part of their joint project in the sector to control
and reinforce their strategy.

Panasonic has been in Europe since the late nineties of last millenium, but in 2005 decided to leave to focus on its television products range. Now they have decided to return.

"The mobile market has experienced a rapid conversion in the use of smart phones, promoting steady growth of the sector, particularly outside of Japanese territory. Panasonic aspires to exploit this dynamic marketing a first for phones for Europe in March
2012, "the company said in a statement.

The company has told Reuters that they are aware of the strength of competitors, but believes they have potential for success in this market with strong mutations.

Panasonic will stated they will start gradually in this market segment. The new phone will use the Android operating system and will be ultra-thin, with a 4.3-inch screen. It was also disclosed that the advertised device will be resistant to dust and water.
The system will be equipped with NFC for payments from the mobile. The equipped camera will be of eight megapixels.

Panasonic expects to sell 1.5 million units next year in Europe, before expanding the offer. The company’s global sales ambitions for 2015-2016 are six million units in Japan and nine million worldwide.
