Revisiting the creation of Bangladesh

The creation-day of Bangladesh and dismemberment of Pakistan is mourned as routine every December 16, during which most of the mess for what happed, is put on external forces. It is a well-formed habit as we are projecting our essentially intrastate conflicts
and declaring others responsible for it.

It is marked one of the darkest days in the history of the country when Pakistan was dismembered that observed a surrender by the country’s powerful military. The loss of eastern wing of the country can be assigned to a collective failure of military and
civil high command. However, the army would have held major share in the entire episode, as General Yahya was the President and Chief Martial-Law Administrator of the country.

Today, we are more divided as compared to the past as we did not learn any lesson despite losing half of the country. Currently, we are suffering from divisive policies, lawlessness, ethnic friction, political and economic mismanagement and rampant corruption.

Pakistan is standing at a critical point where it will have to choose a clear way to come out of crises and to move forward. It will have to take a clear stance whether to adopt dictatorship or democracy in the long run. A saying fits completely on our case
that the country gets the rulers it deserves.

The history of electoral process is not good in the country as Pakistan is full of unaware people who elect corrupt and inept leaders in the elections. Pakistan is facing hard times in many sectors including economy, security and defence.

The nation is divided in many sections but want a change to break the class system. This country was not created for a handful families, it is a country of 180 million people. The country cannot be left at the pity of corrupt politicians, military dictators
and so-called religious clerics.

Apart from all the drawbacks and malfunctioning, our survival lies in democracy. The masses will have to break the shackles of status quo and rebuff all those who are coming into the powers through wrong ways again and again.

Regardless of that we are suffering from crises; we should not wait for another breach in our sovereignty. The fragmentation is our society will further down the nation on all fronts.

At the utmost point, we should prevent the feelings of estrangement in any part of the country that is only possible to see Pakistan as a single unit.
