Imran Khan to bring the real democracy in Pakistan – Part One

Pakistan has gone through a political turmoil since last couple of months because of the memo-gate scandal and there has been an element of fear amongst the democratic forces that army may take over the country once again. However, keeping the history of
Martial Laws enforced in Pakistan in mind, it does not look like an option for the army at the present moment.

In past, the opposition parties have always welcomed the Martial Laws and the judiciary legitimized the dictators. However, the situation is very different in the country at the present moment. Almost all the major political forces in the country have cleared
that they are not going to welcome any extra-constitutional step. On top of that, the higher courts of Pakistan are independent for the first time since the birth of the country.

The fastest growing political party in the country, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) has expressed it categorically that they will not come into power through any other mean apart from elections.

Chairman PTI and cricketer turned politician, Imran Khan said while addressing to a public gathering that democracy is the way forward for Pakistan and his party will never join hands with any dictator in future.

However, he made it clear that his party will back the judiciary on the memo-gate issue, even if the verdict comes against the sitting government of Pakistan Peoples Party.

Imran said, “The PTI is a democratic party … will never support dictatorship in the country and will side with the judiciary.”

However, Imran strongly criticized the current democratic system in the country and refused to call it democracy. He feels that all the major political parties in the country have become private companies, where all the powers remain in the hands of some
families like the Bhuttos, Shareefs and Chaudhrys.

Imran expressed that the political leaders just use the word ‘democracy’ in order to exploit the emotions of the masses and in fact, there is monarchy and dynastic politics within the parties like Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League (N).

PTI is of the opinion that the parliament in Pakistan has become a mere rubber-stamp and has lost the ability to do anything for the general public.

To be continued …
