Eric Schmidt, CEO of internet search engine giant, Google, has announced that the company will introduce their own tablet within six months. Schmidt stated the time period of release but did not give further details.

The latest announcement by Google is part of a series of notable accolades in the memory of late Steve Jobs.

“He was the Michelangelo of our time. A friend of mine and a unique character, able to combine creativity and genius. A visionary with an extraordinary engineering capability. Sometimes you find people with one thing or another. But not both at the same
time.”

“Steve realized the revolutionary potential of the tablet and created an amazing product, iPad (…) In the next six months we intend to market a tablet of the highest quality. And in mobile communications, the smart phone market will see a brutal competition
between Apple and Google Android. It is capitalism,” Schmidt added.

Google already has experience in the smart phone business. They have been in the telephone industry, working together with Samsung for the Nexus handheld phone. Google partnered prior to Nexus with HTC without much success.

However, the most obvious feature on tablet will be is that it will arrive fitted with Android operating system version Ice Cream Sandwich. It will allow the user to unify their experience on mobile (tablets and phones) devices.

In addition to this, it will allow them to reduce problems related to proliferation of versions that is a headache for application developers.

In his interview, Schmidt ventures into more general reflections. He talked about capitalism, which appreciates systems that are proven to improve the quality of life of the society. Nevertheless, stating that it is a process that also causes pain.

When asked by a reporter about projects that are underway in Google laboratories, Schmidt emphatically referred towards cars that do not require drivers. However he admitted that seeing them on the street will take years because of security concerns and
regulatory requirements.

He remarked that the first step will be to use this technology as a driver aid that will not leave his place behind the wheel.
