Peace on Earth, good will to men; Merry Christmas to all

Islamabad, Saturday, December 24, 2011: “As we celebrate another glorious and joyous day of Christmas today, I find no words, but to greet my nation with the very first message of Jesus Christ; ‘Peace on Earth, good will to men’,
Said Mr. Sajid Ishaq, the renowned social worker and chairman Interfaith League against Poverty (I-Lap) while giving his Christmas message to the Christian brethren along with the rest of the Pakistani nation.

He said, “For Christians around the world, today’s day marks the commemoration of the Nativity of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Since, on this day each one of us tries to forget his worries, anxieties and endeavours to alleviate those
of his loved ones and friends, and to forgive those who have wronged him, I wish same for this nation and pray from the Lord to revive its spirit to stand up-head against all the challenges and to prevail against all odds.”

Stressing the Christian community to rise for the betterment of their community and for the interest of this nation at large, he referred to the life of Jesus Christ and said, “When Jesus Christ was born from Virgin Mary, from
that time on He lived an exemplary life, a life which men everywhere must emulate. This life and the Faith that he taught us assures us salvation, assures us also of harmony and a good life upon Earth.”

Because of the exemplary character of the life of Jesus Christ, he said, it is necessary that all men do their maximum in their human efforts to see to it that they approximate as much as they can the good example that has been
set by Him.

Referring to the huge responsibility of serving the humanity each Christian is indebted with; the Chairman I-Lap said that we must strive for it, even though there are no apparent immediate rewards for that. He said, “The Mystery
of Bethlehem reveals itself in our spirits, more fascinating the more we advance on the path of life, and the more we realize the magnitude of the mission each one of us has to accomplish in this world, be it humble or noble, arduous or thankless.”

At the end of his message, he once again called for the need of a lasting peace in Pakistan and in the world at large and reiterated the fact that a war can be justified on no grounds. He said, “In very truth there are no interest
or reasons, however legitimate they may be, that can justify war.”
