Monster Inc is a computer-animated comedy flick which was released on 2nd November, 2001. It opened to number one spot at the box office and received mostly positive reviews.

It centres on two monsters, Mike Wazowski (a green monster with one large eye, voiced by Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (a large, tough, furry behemoth-like giant monster, voiced by John Goodman) who resides in a city of
monsters with no humans, Monstropolis.

The city generates electricity by scaring children, however, monsters are terribly afraid themselves of being contaminated by children. A 2-year-old baby girl dubbed ‘Boo’ accidently sneaks into the monster world and it’s up to
Wazowski and Sulley (or Sullivan) to send Boo back in her door before anybody and especially two evil monsters, Randall Boggs (a chameleon like monster played by Steve Buscemi) and their boss Mr. Waternoose – the chairman and chief executive officer of Monsters,
Inc., finds out.

The $115 million budgeted movie received universal critical acclaim. Review aggregator Metacritic gave it a score of 78 out of 100 based on 34 reviews from 34 critics.

Rotten Tomatoes reports that 95 percent critics gave the film a positive review based on 167 critics, with an average score of 7.9 out of 10. The site’s general consensus states, “Even though Monsters, Inc lacks the sophistication
of the Toy Story series, it is a still delight for children of all ages.”

Time Magazine’s top film critic, Richard Corliss, declared, “The good guys are those who realize that laughter is stronger than fear. That’s a message worth taking to heart these jittery days.”

Charles Taylor of the Salon.Com said, “It’s agreeable and often funny, and adults who take their kids to see it might be surprised to find themselves having a pretty good time.”

Karn Williams of the News Blaze gave four out of four stars and praised the movie by stating, “A charming cartoon classic coming courtesy of a successful collaboration by the good folks at Disney and Pixar.”

Overall, Monster Inc. is a must watch film for not only children of all ages but for their parents as well.
