Mark Wahlberg admits ‘Planet of Apes’ lacked a good script

Actor Mark Wahlberg has admitted that 2001 movie ‘Planet of Apes’ lacked a good script which is why it faltered at the Box Office. The movie was made at a production budget of $100 million and grossed $180 million in the domestic
market. Although the film recovered its cost considerably, it was hammered by the critics for content.

The actor insisted that he has heard a lot about the series’ new outing ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ and has heard rave reviews about the new film. He admitted that the one in which he acted 10 years ago was a weak film and
had a poor script. He added that the producers were pushing the film for an early release which took the film to the wrong direction.

“I haven’t seen [Rise of the Planet of the Apes] yet, but I heard it was pretty damn good. Well, ours wasn’t. It is what it is. Ours wasn’t. They didn’t have the script right. They had a release date before he had shot
a foot of film. They were pushing him and pushing him in the wrong direction. You have got to let [director] Tim [Burton] do his thing,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

Wahlberg, who has been praised for his performance in ‘The Fighter’, praised Tim Burton as a great director and admitted that he loved to work with him during the shoot of the film. He added that he would love to do another film
with Burton in his career.

“I have no better time on any movie than I had working with Tim. I had the most amazing time with Tim. I run to be on the set with him. We were doing reshoots, and he came out with me to Paris,” the actor concluded.

Mark Wahlberg has been nominated for several awards for the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in the Fighter. He will next star in movies Contraband and Ted which are set to release next month.
