The decay in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz

As the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the headship of Mian Nawaz Sharif started red herrings, defections have commenced in the party at the level of senior leadership. Demoting and ill-treatment of both veteran leaders and party workers is said
to have the main reason behind the desertions.

Punjab, the most populace province of the country, is iron-grip of the PML-N but most complainants emerged from the same area, which is point of concern for the party.

Ahead of the Imran Khan’s popularity, the dissenters had no choice but to join hands with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). But it was objectionable to many due to traditional rivalries and personal hostilities.

Abruptly, they found choices in the form of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Imran Khan’s party is likely to turn into catalytic mediator that could accelerate the process of the departure of activists and leaders of the PML-N and PPP.

Unlike the PPP and PML-N, the PTI provides more chances of a rise in the ladder. It does not revolve around a particular line like the competitive other parties.

Imran Khan, the chief of the PTI, does not have any favorites among the newly joined brigade. In the first move, Sharif brothers will eliminate the internal differences among the party members in order to hold them back with the party.

Conversely, the two are using their entire energies to bring down the incumbent PPP-led government before the Senate polls, by March 2012. In lieu of resolving the issues in the parliament and criticizing the government policies, they opted to move Supreme
Court, terming parliament ineffective.

In the meantime, Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, is resorting to venomous speeches against PPP. It was hoped that the PML-N leadership will concentrate on internal conflicts of the party after the sudden and unanticipated departure of Javed Hashmi.

However, they did not learn any lesson and resignations of PML-N leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Saranjam Khan and Punjab Vice President, Inamullah Niazi, are two recent examples. The two complained that they have been sidelined for a long time.

Niazi severely expressed his feelings, terming his former party (PML-N) a pack of conspirators.

The PML-N performance in the next general polls will mainly depend on its organizational potency. It might come across serious hinder if the party is not able to inculcate confidence among its senior leadership.
