FATA parliamentarians demand distinguish provincial status

As the representatives from FATA (Federally Administrated Tribal Area) made a demand for distinguish
provincial status, the Awami National Party (ANP), the ruling lot of the Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa, precipitated showing its consent for a referendum in the area.

In quite an unparallel move, the ANP agreed and suggested to hold a referendum in FATA to know the wish of the local people about making the tribal areas as a separate province.

“It is up to the people of the FATA whether they want a separate province or to remain with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa," ANP’s spokesperson Senator Zahid Khan said while speaking to the media.

Commenting on the fresh demand of FATA parliamentarians for having their own province, Zahid Khan went on say that the demand of the natives couldn’t be ignored. However, he said that the issue will affect every individual thence referendum should be held
in this regard.

Khan further stated that his party will accept the wish of the FATA inhabitants whatsoever it will be. He added that emergence of FATA with KPK was also a possibility and choice must be given to the people of the region.

Explaining the resolution submitted by FATA parliamentarians in the National Assembly Secretariat, the ANP spokesperson said that the party will look into the matter when debate will start on the draft.

"New province should be formed after consensus without creating any disputes among the people," Khan maintained.

Meanwhile, MNA from FATA Hameedullah Jan Afridi stated that his area had been ignored by the ruling elite throughout the country’s history. He informed that the people of FATA were already deprived and now efforts were being made to make Tribal Areas a part
of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He asserted that the tribal belt had remained autonomous, and thence its people did not want to be a part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Afridi maintained that FATA at present is land without any constitution and civilized modern law.

In his view the political party act should also be extended to FATA to initiate process of development in the area. He demanded that FATA should be included in the package on formation of new provinces.
