Foolish way of celebrations

At time when mostly countries in the world kick off the New Year with impressive fireworks displays and general cheerfulness, we celebrate the occasion in much more gloomy style. A large number of people get injure and die because of the festive firing.

Unfortunately, this has been become a common practice among us. According to the media reports, at least three people had lost their lives while over hundred sustained injuries on New Year’s Eve in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, in terms of festive
gunfire. It is worth highlighting here that the aerial firing was banned across the country on the occasion.

As soon as the clocks struck 12, constant firing started across the city, as residential neighborhood appeared to sound like war areas. Similar situation was observed in the other parts of the country on the occasion. But it did not count any loss of life.

Apart from the occasions of New Year, victory in the cricket matches, weddings ceremonies, moon-nights and other prominent eves are now valid reasons to bring out the firing.

Roughness on such events is an issue across the globe, but in Pakistan the aggressive nature this society and the reality is that it is drenched with guns makes the situation more severe.

The real issue is that many people in the country have an odd definition of fun, happiness and enjoyment. People put themselves and others in danger by indulging in reckless behavior and breaking the law, falling all seemingly under the category of enjoyment.

This was the utmost reason that the Basant was banned in the country. People could celebrate the event sensibly with many insisting on flying kites using lethal glass-coated ropes. Everyone has a right to celebrate every event but this process should be
done wisely.

People mostly claim that the state has been failed to enforce law in the country but at the same time they are equally responsible for spoiling in reckless chases including aerial firing, wheeling and skidding in the name of festive.

Society and the state will have to play their roles to end this madness and move the country towards civilized states.
