LG unveils new 4mm-thick OLED TV: A new generation of television
LG will be launching a new generation of television. In the next week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG will unveil a 55" OLED TV measuring just 4mm thick.
This new generation TV screen will producea resolution higher than the current wave of televisions available in the market today.
It will use the same technology used in the latest smartphone screens. The mechanism used in these 4mm-thick televisions is Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) system, which offers a refresh-rate
that is 1,000 times faster than most current sets. It means that moving images appear significantly smoother.
LG wrote on its blog, “OLED TV generates the most natural colours of any TV set at a much lower price point than could have been achieved using the standard manufacturing process.”
The new TV set will weighs 7.5kg, but the price of the TV is still not provided. The set might be released in the UK. Previous OLED TV sets made by Sony have cost around £2,000 for an
11” model, and no larger versions have been produced in significant numbers.
President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company, Havis Kwon said, “OLED is clearly the future of home TV entertainment and LG is very focused on making this exciting technology
as easy as possible for consumers to embrace.”
The set will be launched with three different colour pixels that make up images rather than the usual three. White colour will be added to the conventional red, green and blue, and will
produce a thin bezel that will expand the picture to appear almost up to the edge of device.
